I don’t believe in New Years Resolutions…
by Scarlett Von Gunten
I don't believe in New Years Resolutions. TODAY is the day to make a choice to grow & change!
What books are you going to read to invest in your growth?
Do you need a mentor to do better in business?
Do you need to play more & spend more time with your family?
Do you need to schedule your time? … or unclutter your desk?
Does all that you need to do overwhelm you so you end up doing nothing? ..Me too!
So today, I choose to keep a to-do list.
Pick which one works for you:
1. Use the Awesome note app and keep your to-do list on there
2. Detailed calendar on your smart phone – schedule items with times throughout the day with a reminder alert
3. Small sticky notes and do a brain dump before bed – write down 1 item on each sticky note that needs to get done. Next day, pick 3 and do them. Take ACTION! (thank you Sarah Cook for the idea!)
Life is busy with a household, family, food, friends, church, activities, business and of course, date nights!! Finding time to fit it all in is not easy, but in whatever you choose to do- I want to encourage you to do it with JOY (and yes, I am talking to myself here too)

Caroling with Friends
41 friends gathered in the cold evening air. We gathered around the heat lamp to warm ourselves as we waited for everyone to show up. Hats and gloves and warm jackets. Children were bundled up. A basketful of candy canes and a story of the meaning behind them was ready to be handed out. Each person was given a booklet filled with Christmas songs.
We prayed and then started going door to door in our new neighborhood, singing to the neighbors.
Little kids were right up front smiling and laughing. My husband, Cobe, knocked on the doors and we all started singing "Joy to the World", "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" and more.
People were surprised and overjoyed. Some people tried to give us $ money, which we promptly refused, wishing them a Merry Christmas and telling them that it was free.
Two older ladies took pictures of us. Cars stopped on the road and listened. One families joy, made me cry, it was so sweet.
We neared the last house and kids ran up to the door and knocked. The gentleman opened it and as we sang, he broke out in song louder than anyone, filling our hearts with gratefulness for such an incredible evening!
I enjoyed it so much, I might not be able to wait until next year to do it again! Maybe we need to start a new tradition and go caroling on Valentines Day & Easter & Birthdays & … how about on Wednesdays too!!
What can you do TODAY to bring JOY to someone else in the midst of your busy, hurried life?
I want to hear about it!!

Thanks for a great article. I too agree that New Year’s resolutions aren’t the way to go. Personal development and goal setting are ongoing to me and not something to focus on just at New Year. There are other ways to focus on the changes that you want to make.
Thank you! Yes, personal development and goal setting are ongoing!! Happy New Year Scott!
Hi. I love to do lists and could not function without them. I have a page with 3 columns. One is household reminders, one is for personal items like remembering a birthday, and one is for business. I love the feeling of accomplishment when I cross something off that gets done. It helps with that JOY you are talking about. Happy New Year to you.
Your list with 3 columns is a great idea Pat! Happy New Year!
What great tips! Thanks so much for sharing! I can't wait for 2012…I am believing that it is going to be a great year! Many blessings to you!

Thank you Anastasiya! Happy New Year!
With my new years ventures, a TO DO list is going to be my saving grace. I've got monthly project templates to keep me on track…
Happy New Year Joyce! Working on my family’s TO DO list today! Sounds like you’re ready to take ACTION!
I agree, no resolutions for me – only solid plans! I keep a written to do list, something about seeing items crossed off is encouraging for me.
